Endoscopic & Non Endoscopic Gastric Balloon
Surgical & Nonsurgical Gastric Balloon Treatment in Jumeirah, Dubai
What is Endoscopic & Non Endoscopic Gastric Balloon?
The gastric balloon procedure is designed to treat weight loss in patients with a BMI of 27 or more. It causes a mechanical limitation in the amount of food that can fit into the stomach to help the patient become full while consuming less food.
The endoscopic balloon procedure involves using an endoscope, which is a tube with a camera that is used to visualize the stomach. At the end of the tube near the camera lies a catheter that is used to inflate a silicone balloon (using saline) in the patients’ stomach. Prior to placing the tube into the stomach, sedation via anesthesia is administered. The balloon is then removed from the stomach after a period of 6-12 months using an endoscope.
Non-surgical gastric balloon procedure is a treatment in which the patient swallows a capsule. The capsule contains a deflated balloon that is connected to a plastic tube. The end of the plastic tube is used to fill the balloon with fluid once the capsule is swallowed. The tube is then detached from the balloon and removed from the stomach. Since there is no anesthesia administered, the patients can leave right after the procedure. The balloon stays in the stomach for 3-4 months, at which point the balloon deflates to pass out of the body naturally.
