WARTS
Warts Treatment in Jumeirah, Dubai
Warts are benign skin growths that appear when a virus (Human Papillomavirus, HPV) infects the top layer of the skin.
Warts are contagious. They can be spread by contact with the virus, which can grow on any part of the body. This is considered to be a potentially pre-cancerous condition.
Types of Warts
- Common warts – most often on the hands
- Plantar warts – soles of the feet
- Flat warts – usually grow on the face, arms and legs
- Filiform warts – grow on the mouth, nose and or beard area
- Perigual warts – grow under and around the toe and fingernails.
- Genital warts
What You Can Do
Though skin warts can’t be prevented, there are a number of precautionary measures you can take to minimise your risk of acquiring warts.
- Wash your hands regularly
- Keep your skin healthy, moisturised, and free of cuts
- If you bite your fingernails or cuticles, do your best to stop. Biting nails creates an opening for the virus to enter your skin
- Be careful to use clean, fresh towels at the gym or in other public locations
- Always wear rubber-soled flip-flops or sandals in public locker rooms and showers
What We Can Do For You
Medical intervention is not needed in all cases. In children, warts often go away of their own accord. In adults, they tend to stay. But some warts are painful and spreading. In such cases, our dermatologist might recommend one or a combination of the following:
- Electrosurgery
- Cryotherapy (freezing the warts off)
- Laser treatments
- Chemical skin treatments
The Future
Even after a skin wart shrinks with treatment, it is possible for a wart to come back and spread to the other parts of the body.
